Want a cheap but chic, quick and easy DIY patriotic decoration for summer? You may have caught our kid-made burlap banners for Halloween and Christmas. And just before Memorial Day, we shared a sneak peek of this kid-made July 4th Banner on our weekly installment of Facebook Live.
How To Make July 4th Banner
I love making these burlap bunting banners. They are quick, easy, super affordable and the end result has a rustic, farmhouse edge to it: perfect for the 4th of July! To make our July 4th Bunting Banner you will need a few inexpensive craft supplies:
Cost: Less than $10
Prep Time: Less than 15 minutes
First, cut out triangles from your blue and white burlap. I usually make a template from a piece of cardstock to insure they are similar in size. Cut them with the top-edge along the stitched edge of your burlap to reduce fraying.
Next, use painters’ tape to tape stripes on your white burlap triangles. Place the tape horizontally down the triangle pennants, about 1 inch apart.

I let the kids do the fun part. Once the stripes are taped off, my 2 year old could stamp the red acrylic paint on the exposed white burlap to create the red stripes. My 4 year old used a star-shaped cookie cutter to stamp silver stars on the blue burlap pennants.
It’s so easy, we demonstrated on Facebook Live during our Red, White and Blue installment just before Memorial Day!
Assembling the DIY July 4th Banner
Once the pennants are dry, remove the painters’ tape and hot glue a piece of jute twine along the back of the pennants across the top. You can alternate the white and blue triangles…
…or put a few blue at one end followed by the striped ones for more of a flag effect.
