What Will Your Custom Mug Say?
Last month, I put together a short list of questions to ask yourself to get back in touch with who you are to help you be the best version of yourself – mom, wife, friend – you can be. One of the best ways to do just that is by carving time out of every day just for you. For me, it’s as easy as taking 10-15 minutes for a hot cup of Twinings of London Herbal Tea, and I love to drink it out of my customized mugs.
One, I love a jumbo mug – the look and feel of it, as it warms my hands. And two, I love putting my own messages on them as gentle reminders to myself (or whoever I choose to gift them to), that I am enough, that I am appreciated, and that it’s okay to take time for you. You can customize your own mug with any phrase or graphics you like, and it really is as simple as these 3 quick and easy steps.
Step 1: Choose Your Saying
To customize your own mug, the hardest part is choosing what you want it to say. You can find lots of inspiration out there, but I find it best to choose something that speaks to you. That while you drink your cup of tea and it warms you physically, choose a phrase or quote that warms you mentally. Here are a few of my favorite sayings by category:

The options are truly endless and the beauty of customizing your own mug is you can choose exactly what you want it to say for the occasion or person you are making it for. Feel free to add simple graphics as well – like a small heart or tea bag tag.
Step 2: Write Your Saying On Your Mug
Once you choose your saying, sketch it out on a piece of paper so you know how you want to write it on your mug. You can find blank jumbo mugs in white or solid colors at just about any big box retailer. I found mine for $2.99 each, and they came in white, pink, red, navy, teal and gray.
You will want to write on your mug with a specialized ceramic marker
Wipe the face of your mug clean with window cleaner and a paper towel. Then, use your ceramic markers to write your custom saying on the mug.
Step 3: Bake Your Mug
Once you’ve done the work to customize your mug, you want it to be permanent. Follow the directions indicated with your ceramic markers. The ones I use require you to let your design dry completely (I let it sit overnight), and then put your mug in a cool oven, turn it on to 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Turn off the oven, open the door and allow the mug to cool to room temperature before you remove it.
The design will now be cured and dishwasher safe.
