All parties need to end with a little something sweet. Dessert tables can be very involved and elaborate, or, while you already have enough to worry about with party guests, decor and food, you can opt for this quick and easy party pleaser.
Make Your Own S’mores Bar
A Build Your Own S’more Bar is a super easy and sweet finish to your party. Suitable for all seasons, themes, and grown-up and kid parties alike, you can set one up in minutes whether you are hosting a Super Bowl Party, a teenage girls’ slumber party, an end of school party for the kids, a White Party for Labor Day… or a hunting themed birthday party like we did!
S’mores Bar Supplies
A basic s’more consists of a roasted marshmallow with a piece of chocolate, sandwiched between two graham crackers. The heated marshmallow melts the chocolate to create a sweet and gooey treat. The first written account of ‘some mores’ dates back to a 1927 Girl Scout campfire building guide.
In addition to the chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows, you will also need sticks for roasting the marshmallows and a fire. If you don’t have an outdoor fireplace, you can use individually sized sterno burners. Please always use adult supervision around fire, and never leave fires unattended.
We are big fans of the marshmallow roasting sticks above, and have been using the same set at our house for a year now, where Sunday S’mores have become a bit of a weekly tradition, year round!
7 Different S’more Recipes
A traditional s’more features a square of Hershey milk chocolate, a roasted marshmallow and original, honey graham crackers. With a few different chocolate and graham cracker varieties, our Make Your Own S’mores Bar featured 7 different recipes, and our guests created their own combinations too.
- Traditional: Graham crackers, Hershey milk chocolate, marshmallow
- Cookies & Creme: Chocolate grahams, Hershey Cookies & Creme bar, marshmallow
- Not So Thin Mint: Chocolate grahams, York peppermint patty, marshmallow
- Rocky Road: Graham crackers, Hershey milk chocolate with almonds, marshmallow
- Champurrado, aka Mexican Hot Chocolate: Cinnamon grahams, milk chocolate, marshmallow
- Chocoholic: Chocolate grahams, Hershey dark chocolate, marshmallow
- Peanut Butter Fluff: Graham crackers, Reese’s peanut butter cup, marshmallow
What’s your favorite flavor combination? I highly recommend using Kraft’s S’more Marshmallows, as they are square and perfect for making s’mores, though traditional jet puffed ones will work too. S’more Bar Set Up
Setting up your Make Your Own S’mores Bar is easy. Print our S’mores Bar Party Printables, and customize them to match your party theme. For our hunting themed birthday party, we mounted them on tented poster boards, with green and orange construction paper mattes to fit with our broader party decor. It took 5 minutes total to prepare the signs in advance of the party, and less than 5 minutes to set up the S’more bar during the party, after dinner.
I displayed our various chocolate options on a fun, hunting themed treat stand, surrounded by packages for graham crackers and marshmallows.
The treat stand was flanked with our printable illustrated step by step directions, our menu featuring the 7 different s’more recipes, our S’more Bar sign, as well as dessert plates and napkins, matching our hunting theme.
I leaned our roasting sticks against the side of our outdoor fireplace, and let guests help themselves. If you don’t have an outdoor fireplace or fire pit, you can set up table top sterno burners.
