A Virtual Book Club for Moms
My co-host Laura from Sunny Day Family and I started Mom’s Book Nooks because we both love to read. But post kids, our real life book clubs seemed to fall apart, as all our friends now had kids and an afternoon of wine, cheese and book discussion was sacrificed to parenthood. All are welcome to join us. Just read the monthly selection, and now, join our new discussion group on Facebook, Mom’s Book Nook!
We announce our book of the month on the first Monday of the month. Our monthly discussion will now be held in the new Facebook group, same date and time – the last Monday of the month (3/28) at 9PM ET.
You can find all our monthly selections to date on my book club home page, as well as on Goodreads!
March 2016 Selection
Our selection for March is Room. Book turned movie, Room was nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, and won Brie Larson the Oscar for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of the lead character, Ma, mother to Jack.
And since the movie was so highly acclaimed, I have to see it… but must read the book first!

About the Book
Room is narrated by five-year old Jack, for whom Room is his entire world. His Ma has tried to create as normal a childhood as possible for him within the confines of the four walls, and the wardrobe she locks him up in every night to keep him safe when Old Nick comes to visit. Room tells the heart-wrenching story of the mother-child bond, through the harshest of circumstances.
About the Author
Born in Dublin in 1969, Emma Donoghue is a writer of contemporary and historical fiction whose novels include the bestselling “Slammerkin,” “The Sealed Letter,” “Landing,” “Life Mask,” “Hood,” and “Stirfry.” Her story collections are “The Woman Who Gave Birth to Rabbits,” “Kissing the Witch,” and “Touchy Subjects.” She also writes literary history, and plays for stage and radio. This one has been on my to be read list FOREVER! Thanks for the motivation 🙂
Mine too! It’s easy to get caught up reading and lose sight of the circumstances in which they are living… only way once can survive something like that, I imagine.
