Adornments – stickers, sequins, foil snowflakes

Ribbon

Cost: Less than $10

If you have plain sticks, start by painting them blue.  This is much, much easier if you use colored craft sticks.  I had some blue ones left in the closet from last summer, but you can find them online at Amazon or in stores like Michael’s.  Make sure you use the big ones.  This package online is less than $5!
I took 3 jumbo sticks and used hot glue to glue them together in a snowflake form.  I attached one at a diagonal to either side of the vertical stick.

While I hot glued the snowflake together, Big M worked on making our adornments.  I had some old scrapbook paper and a snowflake punch.  I cut the scrapbook paper in strips, so it was easier for her to feed through the punch.  I ended up having to help her with this a lot more than I planned because the paper was thick and tough for her to punch through… but she was determined to do as much as possible herself!

Once the snowflake form “cooled”, I let Big M go to town decorating them with our freshly punched snowflakes.  She realized she could turn them over for white snowflakes instead of shiny silver ones, and started making patterns.

Guru Tip: I’m a big fan of glue sticks over liquid glue whenever possible, as it’s easier for little hands, less messy and dries more readily.

When she was all finished, I hot glued a ribbon loop to the back so we could hang it on the tree.  Hubby says if we don’t slow down on making ornaments, we are going to run out of room on the tree.  I told him, we should get a bigger tree! This can be a fun Hannukah craft too – instead of using the blue sticks to make a snowflake, you can make a Star of David!
