Last Weekend

Last weekend was spent prepping the house and then vacating for an open house (anyone want to live in a great beach community, walking distance to beach, tasty treats – ice cream and gourmet cupcake shop, bar, pizza place, and even a church?).  But the highlight was where we went during the open house… we got to go pick out plants for all the landscaping at our new house!  This place is the most amazing garden center I have ever been to – if you live anywhere in Connecticut, be sure to check out Winterberry Garden in Southington.  Even if it’s a hike, the place is amazing.  They have everything – the usual annuals and perennials, but also all your hardscaping elements, a koi pond, and a full-fledged arboretum.  You can literally walk around there for hours!

It was super hot, but the girls were such troopers… the koi pond was quite the hit, as were the baby apple trees, already starting to grow fruit!

My Favorites from Last Week

No official theme this week, but I was definitely drawn to posts that aligned with the activities we have been doing ourselves lately…

We Love Weekends Features 2015-05-22

Up first, I really enjoyed Hands on As We Grow’s post on Earth Art.  We have been spending as much time outdoors as we possibly can, and this is one more great activity to add to our mix.  And best of all, it requires no additional materials other than nature’s offerings in the great outdoors!

Next, Mini Monets and Mommies post on Alphabet Art is a great craft to add to our recent letter formation activities.  This sentence might be the best thing I’ve read all week: “…if a marshmallow and modeling clay got married and had a baby. That’s Model Magic.”  I’ve never used Model Magic before, but that line is more than enough to make me order some tonight to try it!

And last, but not least, I love this fun science meets music post, How to Make Your Own Bazzoon-A-Phone from Planet Smarty Pants!  First, the name alone is enough to make me love it, but my girls love music of all kinds, and I love anything that incorporates a STEM element into the mix!
