You all know the old saying, “April showers bring May flowers!” And this month’s Top 10 series is full of over 100 flower ideas for kids. My Top 10 list features Flower Crafts for kids inspired by some of my favorite children’s books. Great reading and perfect activities to celebrate Spring!
Top 10 Flower Crafts for Kids Inspired by Children’s Books
I love using children’s books to inspire activities with my kids. And for spring, there is no shortage of great books for inspiration. We found some great flower crafts for kids based on a few of our favorite books below.
Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney
This is one of those books from childhood I remember so vividly. Miss Rumphius tells the tale of the lupine lady, who spread her lupine seeds up and down the streets of her coastal Maine town, on her own personal mission to Make the World More Beautiful. Read it and create this fun collaborative Lupine Sun Catcher Collage. Or for a fine motor skill challenge, try your hand at these Pipe Cleaner Lupines from Sunny Day Family. You can find more Miss Rumphius inspired activities here.
Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
You already know we are big fans of Lois Ehlert. Growing Vegetable Soup was the inspiration behind my most popular post this spring: DIY Garden Markers. Another book from her Growing Garden Boxed Set is Planting a Rainbow. It tells the story of making a rainbow of flowers in every color grow in your own garden and is the colorful inspiration behind this Flower Garden Collage from School Time Snippets and this fun Sparkly Flower Craft from Teach Mama.
The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
Eric Carle has been one of my girls’ favorite authors since birth. We have all his board books, and his textured collage illustrations always provide great inspiration. The Tiny Seed is no different. It inspired this Giant Sunflower Craft by Kidz Activities, a fun Flower Collage from Rubber Boots and Elf Shoes, and my personal favorite, these Potato Stamp Flowers by A Little Pinch of Perfect.
More Flower Crafts Inspired by Children’s Books
What can I say – born a Texan, always a Texan. And part of that, is an obsessive love of bluebonnets. So of course, I absolutely love this the Bluebonnet craft inspired by The Legend of the Bluebonnet from Adventures in Mommydom.
It was also complete love at first sight with this DIY Flower Headband from See Vanessa Craft. It was inspired by the amazing Frida Kahlo and the story, Frida Kahlo Little People Big Dreams.
My girls also adored this Upcycled Egg Carton Rose Crown from Fantastic Fun and Learning. It is inspired by this royally fun children’s book, The Queen of France.

Cute activities! The lupine story is one of my favorites, but really, all those books are fantastic!
Thanks Terri! I love Miss Rumphius too!
My favorite thing about this list is I found some new books to look for! 🙂
I know! Me too when I was researching posts! Love finding (and sharing) new books.
