Quick and Easy Flavored Snow Ice Cream

Growing up in Texas, it only snowed with any accumulation twice in my whole life… the month I was born and when I was 3.  Now, living in New England, I love experiencing winter with my kids because I feel like a kid myself – sledding, building snowmen, making snow angels – all things I never got to do as a kid with Texas winters.  And last week, the girls and I made snow ice cream!

Coffee Snow Ice Cream

Flavored Snow Ice Cream

Last week, we were home on our second snow day in a row, and the natives were getting restless.  They had already spent half the morning burning off energy in our Indoor Obstacle Course, and they wanted to know what we could do next! They love to cook with me in the kitchen, and I had just seen multiple recipes for Snow Ice Cream on Pinterest, and with the snow falling fast outside, I knew it was the perfect choice.  There are several different versions – some feature sweetened, condensed milk – but I opted for the more natural version!

Of course, Lil’ M, my chocoholic, wanted chocolate.  And I am personally partial to coffee ice cream.  All the recipes I saw only featured vanilla, so we did a little kitchen experimenting to make 5 different flavors of Snow Ice Cream!

5 Different Flavors of Snow Ice Cream

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 3-4 servings

Serving Size: 1 cup

5 Different Flavors of Snow Ice Cream

5 flavors of snow ice cream requiring 4-5 basic ingredients + snow!

Ingredients

Basic Ingredients

1 cup milk

1/3 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Sprinkle of salt

Lots of fresh snow

Flavor additions (optional)

Assorted sprinkles

2 TBSP chocolate syrup

1/2 cup coffee (cooled)

1/2 cup strawberry puree

1 tsp peppermint extract and handful of miniature chocolate morsels

Instructions

Vanilla Snow Ice Cream

For basic vanilla snow ice cream, combine milk, sugar, vanilla and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add fresh snow to the bowl and mix until you achieve ice cream consistency. Depending on the weight and density of the snow, it will take ~4-6 cups of snow to blend with the liquid. Add 1-2 cups at a time until you get the consistency you want. Sprinkles are optional.

Chocolate Snow Ice Cream

To make chocolate ice cream, add 2 TBSP chocolate syrup to your liquid mixture BEFORE stirring in your snow.

Coffee Snow Ice Cream

To make coffee ice cream, replace 1/2 cup of milk with 1/2 cup of cooled coffee. You may want to brew it and place it in the refrigerator to fully cool it before adding it to milk and combining with snow.

Strawberry Snow Ice Cream

To make strawberry ice cream, replace 1/2 cup of milk with 1/2 cup of strawberry puree (puree 4-5 fresh or frozen strawberries with 1/4 cup of water or milk), then combine with snow.

Peppermint Chip Snow Ice Cream

To make peppermint chip ice cream, replace 1 tsp vanilla with 1 tsp peppermint extract and add a handful of miniature chocolate morsels to your liquid mixture before combining with snow.
